I love Thanksgiving time around the NFL, and more importantly, across the entire sports landscape. I love it so, so much.
1) Thanksgiving was great
The two games on Thanksgiving were amazing. Houston-Detroit went to overtime, and other than a Ndamukong Suh low-blow to Matt Schaub, it was an overall great game.
Meanwhile, Robert Griffin III and Alfred Morris continued their outstanding rookie seasons against Dallas. Unfortunately for Dallas they wasted an outstanding performance from Dez Bryant.
Wait, what's that? There was a third game? What happened? Oh...
Heh.
2) The Patriots are still the Patriots
Rob Gronkowski be damned. I feel like I'm going to hell for just saying that. However, it appears if the team can keep clicking despite their top tight end being out, and their second-best receiving option not at 100% in Aaron Hernandez.
The Jets are obviously hurting, but the Patriots have rounded into form here the last few weeks. They've blown the doors off the AFC East race and look to have all but locked up the division with a few weeks to go.
3) Packers started hot... and then stopped playing
Anyone who is a Packers fan or owns a Packers player in fantasy football is hating life this week. I particularly am, but I won't bore you with how I lost my fantasy match-up by half-a-point because I'm not selfish, but I'm still mad.
Aaron Rodgers and company struggled against the Giants, despite some early success. The Packers offensive line couldn't keep Aaron Rodgers off the ground, as he was pummeled all night. It didn't help the running game couldn't get anything going as both James Starks and Alex Green were held under 40 yards each.
Jordy Nelson looked healthy for the first time in weeks, so if there were one positive to take from the game, that would be it.
4) Mediocre Monday night
Monday night's game probably seemed like a great idea at the beginning of the season. It was not. The Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles were both on the path to implosion, but now we know the Eagles are just the slightest bit ahead.
Nick Foles struggled during the game as his timing was off. He often held on to the ball too short or too long. The Eagles did find something in Bryce Brown. He exploded on the scene last night in a big way.
5) A Special Note
Today, November 27th, is the five-year anniversary of the death of Sean Taylor. Taylor, to this day, is still revered in Washington, D.C. and thought of as a cult hero. I won't go into the whole story as I'm sure everyone knows by now, but his legacy lives on in DC.
He would have been 29 this season and looked to be on the path to the elite of the elite at the safety position before his life was tragically cut short. I still watch his highlights every now and then. I suggest you do the same. He was a great player, and was growing as a person to change his life.
The birth of his daughter seemed to change his life for the positive. His teammates all said he rededicated himself to football and his future after that moment. It's a tragedy that he was lost so soon. It's a day of remembrance, so what are some of your favorite memories of Sean Taylor? Any highlight you may have forgotten is likely in the link above.
Also, any stories you think merit top-four status?
